Born in Detroit, Michigan Chuck spent his formative years surrounded by modern jazz masters, including his father, the great Alto Saxophonist Charles McPherson, Sr. Chuck grew up watching his dad make records with legendary composer and bassist Charles Mingus. At the age of 16 he began a professional career playing drums, singing, and composing. Chuck has toured and recorded with Freddie Hubbard, Roberta Flack, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and the pre-eminent rap record label Sugar Hill. True to the spirit of innovation, he presses on blending Orchestral Jazz, Blues, Hip-Hop Spirituals, and Afro Beat. His Funky Drummer Orchestra creates sound scapes that make you dance, clap, cry and testify. These intense performances are quickly becoming a delicacy of the creative elite worldwide.
